Where can you find redwoods and cactus at the same time? The UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens that’s where. Tami looked at the gardens as a possibility for their wedding, but instead we ended up taking their engagement pictures here. So glad we did. Here’s a little taste of the shoot we did last week. Can’t wait for the wedding!
Any time I get the chance to photograph a wedding or engagement session at Cornerstone Gardens my ears perk up and a smile fills me face. It is one of my favorite places in the world. But much more than the location itself, I love the type of people Sonoma and Napa attract for weddings- fun, creative, classy, smart, and full of joy with a penchant for a good party. Martha and Rob are all these things and more. Not only that, but they love each other deeply, and their wedding day was truly a special time. Tears and laughter. From vineyards, to the architecture and sculptures, flower gardens, and an airfield down the street that houses vintage airplanes which fly over the gardens- this place is magical. The opening shot is a little quirky, but I think it reflects the uniqueness of the Gardens. Thank you Rob, Martha, and your family and friends its been nothing but an immense pleasure to be a part of your beautiful day.
Here are a few images from a lovely afternoon I got to share with Claire and Rasheed in Berkeley. The two of them met at UC Berkeley and are both getting their doctorates in English Literature so it was fun to incorporate a little bit of their loves not only for each other but also for music and literature. We started just a few blocks from Claire’s house, at Cragmont Park, and ended the day at the Berkeley Marina, where they had their first date. The sunlight was candy and the warmth they carry filled the images we were able to capture together. Can’t wait for their wedding!
Every now and then I get to shoot people who have been friends of mine long before I was a wedding photographer. Steph and Johannes have been special friends to my wife since we moved to the city, and they actually volunteered several years ago to be my very first engagement session couple. I attended their wedding in New Jersey happily as a guest with my wife (which almost never happens and was a special treat). But we still wanted a chance to shoot a few portraits of them back in San Francisco and on a sunny day in the Presidio we got to do just that. We had a ton of fun laughing through the park together and ended up at the evening having a wonderful evening together for some wonderful French food and wine at Chapeau. Thanks you two, Heather and I are so grateful for your friendship.
