Lily & Chia Saun’s Wedding, Intercontinental Hotel Monterey, CA

There is so much to love about Lily and Chia Saun’s wedding. Getting married in downtown Monterey right above the ocean is pretty spectacular, and it was clear from the get-go that their entourage knew what it meant to be the bridal-PARTY! I immediately felt welcomed by everyone. From Lily’s dress with fantastic pockets (who doesn’t want pockets?), and stunningly glitzy Alexander McQueen shoes, to Chia Saun’s monogrammed shirt, suit, and Rolex Daytona they were styling.

Some of my favorite moments of the day included the Chinese door games (think- guys passing each other an orange with only their necks), the look on Lily’s face as Chia Saun saw her for the first time, tears of laughter during their vows, and Chia Saun’s thank you address in which everyone felt both the love he has for his bride and the way together they approached their own wedding day as a chance to celebrate the gratitude he and Lily have for their friends and family.

We had a great time shooting on the beach in some soft light and one of my favorite portraits of the year in the first shot I share below.  Thank you both for trusting me with such a beautiful day!

I would like to especially thank Lily Yip who did a fantastic job shooting and assisting me throughout the day. Tahnee & Necip’s Wedding, Wedgewood Banquet Center, Gilroy CA

One thing I now know is that when you bring together Turkish and Norwegian families a beautiful party is just around the corner. From the moment I walked through the door and saw the huge glow on Tahnee’s face I knew that this day would be perfect. And from the way her bridesmaids swooned as she put on her gorgeous dress, to the look in her eye as she first saw Necip, to the way they basked in each other’s company as we took portraits, to a lovely ceremony, and finally into a night of dancing, laughter and a crazy family skit, it was just that: perfect.

I love meaningful details, and this wedding was full of them. Much of the design was hand-done by Tahnee herself (love the candles in Mason jars!). A ladybug theme wound through the wedding, in jewelry, cookies, and Tahnee’s bouquet, honoring Tahnee’s mother. Little blue good-luck charms served as a uniquely Turkish touch.

I have more and more fun shooting portraits, and this day was amazing. When it gets to finding places to shoot I always start with finding pretty light. We found some fantastic light in a little grassy canyon just down the road from the ceremony site, and I had a really tough time choosing which portrait images to share today. Special thanks to Josh for his help. Several of the images below are his work.

Sweet Pea Floral

Absolutely stunning!! You really captured the feeling of Eagle Ridge – grassy hills, huge oak tree – and of course, the feeling of Tahnee & Necip, a wonderfully sweet couple.

Thank you for sharing.

I love when you blog – alway so much fun and color and emotion. Love the light and everything about this wedding. Great job again!

Tahnee

Thank you Matthias for your nice words about our wedding! The pictures are amazing…you outdid yourself :)

Nisha & Nikhil’s Palm Event Center Wedding, Pleasonton CA

After meeting Nisha and Nikhil through clients who became friends, Tania and Uday, we had a blast at their engagement session and I knew that their wedding at the Palm Event Center would be both beautiful and a ton of fun. As the wedding reception opened Nisha’s siblings took a moment to gather their families and thank their parents for their love and support. It’s not often that people take time in the midst of a wedding to honor their parents as they did, and it was a highlight for me to behold. It epitomized the care and love that so richly filled the air through the wedding day. It was obvious to everyone that both Nisha and Nikhil hold each of their parents in highest esteem, and on this day it was a celebration for them as well as they could see their kids all grown up and say once more, “well done, we’re proud of you.” From start to finish this wedding was a blast for me and Josh to be a part of.

Colorful, happy, beautiful moments. Great job!

Alison & Cornelius Golden Gate Club Wedding, San Francisco

Laughter and light. I find magic in them both, and on the day of Alison and Cornelius’ wedding the air was filled with the beauty of each. As I went through Alison and Cornelius’ images after the wedding, the one thing that continued to emerge as a theme was the joy they have in each other’s presence. May the images I share here serve as a celebration of their laughter together and the pleasure they now have in knowing they will share the rest of their lives together.
